Reflection: The Athlete Community is Amazing

Life is full of ups, downs, twists, and turns. Over the past week I have seen a community of athletes come together from across the nation to pray and send good thoughts to a fellow athlete in need! It has been so amazing….out of this tragic event, there has been amazing sense of togetherness that I have never seen before. People from across the world are posting positive messages, good thoughts and prayers to my friend Amy! There was a prayer vigil that over 100 people came to pray, think, and share stories about Amy and getting Glucked:) Think of it as getting Chicked..but Glucked…she can best most guys!

Today was a sign that the prayers are working…this was the latest update from her boyfriend Dave, Amy update… She has been moving her limbs and has even opened her eyes and tried to say “Hi” to a few of us. What a great feeling to see her open her eyes and know she is still in there. It’s brief but we will take it. Prayers are working keep them coming.Xoxo.

I have been thinking about how amazing the athlete/triathlon community really is! We are there for each other and really a family. We cheer for each other on the race course, push each when are feeling low, and pray(in what ever form that is for you), when we need each other.

The main outcome I would like for Amys story is the importance of Sharing the Road! I think often times drivers think we are the road to ruin their day or make them late. In reality we are pushing ourselves and enjoying the sport we love. I always try to say hello to everyone I pass while running and riding on the road. I want people to realize that we are people who have families and loved ones who care about us. We are not there to make anyone late or hold someone up. Just doing something that brings joy to our lives.

Thank you Ice. for being so amazing and making the world a better place:)
