Bring on the Long Run

This week the weatherman said that Fall was coming in with a cold front this weekend, my first thought was “Bring on the Long Run”. I don’t know how many of you are like me but weather(more so the heat) is a huge determining factor in my weekly training plans. I love running in the early morning, to me there is no better time, but running at 4:30am and it is 97 degrees is not the same enjoyment.

So I am more than excited to be transitioning my training from the HOT early mornings and the pool back to my first love…..The brisk early morning road. With a marathon in December, this is one of my favorite times of the year to be a runner. Whether you are a trail runner, beach runner, road junky, or track star……you have to agree the conditions are increasingly more inviting this time of year. I also tend to face less injury and damage to my body.

For those of you who might not enjoy the early morning training such as myself and would rather push snooze 12 times, I thought I would put together a list of my 5 favorite things about early morning running in the Fall, maybe I can convince you to give it a try.

  1. I get to use my “cold gear” because it is all about looking good right
  2. Fewer dogs to deal with, because they are inside or curled up keeping warm
  3. The Smell of wood burning in fireplaces as I run by.
  4. Seeing my breath when I exhale
  5. Hot Coffee and Pancakes Post-run

What do you think? Convinced?Regardless I would love to hear your thoughts on training in the Fall.

Keep up the good work, it is worth it!! Thanks!!

Nope! Still not convinced to run early. My only early morning run each week is my long weekend run. I do however enjoy the cooler temps after the brutal summer heat but training in the summer heat makes you much stronger for your cool weather races.
