Racing for fun:)
It is Saturday morning and 1.5 hours until a local 5k:) I am in the middle of intense Nationals training(2 weeks away) and my 10th Iron Distance (3 weeks away), so it is almost time to taper. I just out of bed and decided to do the local 5k, where I know that winning my age group is going to get me a blueberry pie and possibly a running store gift certificate:) I just went into the race to hang out with friends and have fun and get a good tempo run out of it. I had a lot of fun and ran a 7:27 pace which was right where I wanted to be, and won the pie:)
The next morning we planned to do an off road triathlon relay..something else I have never done. I was doing the swim and it was awesome to only have to think about the swim. As I started the swim I quickly realized that I was the fastest swimmer in the race and came out ahead of everyone including the guys:) Our mountain biker kept the lead for us and my husband was able to hold off the fast charging runners:) We finished 1st and had a ton of fun:)
This weekend really recharged me leading into the next few weeks of training before my big races. I was able to do well and still have fun.
I encourage everyone to do something fun before the big day…I will definately do a relay again! It was awesome!
