Get Lost – Run Without a Plan

I went for a run Saturday while I was in Broken Arrow, OK. I just happened to be in the middle of GIANT housing development that consisted of multiple suburbs connected together. I really didn’t have a time or distance goal, I was just looking to get some running in and see how my ankle felt. As I started running, I took random turns here and there and didn’t pay too much attention to where I was going.

Eventually I decided that I should head back… so I started to head “back”. I guess I didn’t realize how lost I had gotten and couldn’t find my route back. Eventually I asked a guy weeding his garden which direction I was to go.

It felt so great to get lost in running. I didn’t really think about much, I just enjoyed the sun on my skin and air in my lungs. I would recommend doing this sometime…soon. If you don’t know of a place to get lost, try running a new route on Runkeeper. It is a website that has lots of routes in many towns/cities at various distances posted by real people. Give it a try! I know it has helped me get pumped about running again.

I agree that getting lost in running is a good thing. You must have really let go. I literally get lost at times, but it’s not on purpose. How is the ankle?

Hi Nicholas! The ankle if feeling much better. Still a little sore and I ice it twice a day, but much better! How is the summer going for you? What is the next race plan?

It’s good to hear your ankle is getting better. The summer has been cool. Of course not as it pertains to the temperature. My next race is the Full mOOn 50k on July 14. Guess I’ll have to embrace the heat. It’s all training for my first 50-miler though. Have a great week!
